I love to look at Facebook. I get most of my current events knowledge, weather updates, and daily quota of silly cat videos from Facebook. Plus being so far away from most of my family, I get to keep in touch! One morning, I stumbled across an article on ways to wake up better – or feel more refreshed in the morning or something like that. One of the things that was mentioned was drinking a glass of lemon water in the morning instead of coffee. I’m not a big coffee drinker anyway, so I thought “Hey! I’ll check this out.”
I did a little research and found out there are actually a LOT of benefits to drinking lemon water. I’ll share with you my top 5!
1. It’s a natural detox for your body.
Lemon stimulates the liver by enhancing enzyme function and helps flush toxins from your body. Your body does an awesome job of flushing out toxins naturally, but keeping a healthy liver is a great way to give it a boost.
2. Boosts energy and immunity- I have four kids…do I need to explain?
Lemons are full of Vitamin C – which is one of the first things to go when you’re feeling stressed. Lack of vitamin C can also lead to decreased immunity which can lead to more sickness and no one, NO ONE wants that!
Lemon boosts energy as it enters your digestive tract. It can also reduce anxiety and aid in fighting back against depression. The SMELL of lemon has a calming effect on your nervous system!
3. Promotes the breakdown of body fat.
The pectin fiber found in lemons assist in fighting hunger cravings.

Our liver loves lemon. The connection between our liver and belly fat may not be immediately apparent, but they are indeed related. Our liver is a powerhouse of an organ that can take a beating. I like to think of the liver as an air filter; it can get clogged up if it’s not maintained and cleaned. Lemon water helps to do that! Our liver secretes bile. Bile helps to break down fat. Lemon water can help to thin out bile and keep toxins flowing through your liver, then out of your body. As a result, fat metabolism becomes more optimal.
4. Skin nourishment! I ain’t gettin any younger.
Say adios to wrinkles, because lemons are packed with antioxidants that help to decrease blemishes and help replenish the youthfulness of your skin. Applying lemon to scars and age spots can help to reduce their appearance, and with its ability to detoxify your blood, it can help to maintain your skin’s radiance.
5. It’s just plain Yummy!
Add some ice cubes and slices of fresh lemon and you’ve got yourself a masterpiece my friends! Some experts also suggest drinking your lemon mixed with warm water – either way, lemon is a health addition to your morning routine.
