This is my go-to breakfast on any given weekday. It takes me about 30 seconds to make and contains no dairy or added sugar. I must say though that super ripe bananas are the best because of their sweetness; if you’re using more green bananas, you might need to add a little bit of honey or maple syrup to sweeten it. It’s also a super cheap meal so WIN WIN!
I use my NINJA to make my smoothies, and I cannot recommend that system enough. Easy clean up, very few parts, small amount of counter or cabinet space. So…GET ONE – you need this in your life. I use it for smoothies, blending, salad dressings…tons of stuff. PLUS you make the smoothie right there in the cup that comes with a little lid so you just blend and go.
You can get one here and if you’re a prime member you can be enjoying these in just 2 days.
OK, for the smoothie. I use these ingredients plus ice.
Ingredients:
Ice
1 Banana
Unsweetened Almond/Coconut milk blend
1 tbsp Hershey’s Cocoa – unsweetened (optional)
1-2 tbsp Natural Peanut Butter (ingredients are just peanuts – if you use regular peanut butter your smoothie will be sweeter so you definitely won’t need to add any honey) (optional)
Directions:
I start with the ice – fill the cup about 1/3 of the way with ice, then break 1 banana into large chunks and toss that in. Next I add the coconut/almond milk to the top of the ice or banana depending on how thick you want it. Then I add the peanut butter and cocoa and blend!! VIOLA – yummy and healthy breakfast smoothie!
I know this may not be as sweet as most people are used to, but since cutting out added sugar and choosing a more “real food” diet, it tastes sweet enough to me with nice ripe bananas. If you need to modify for your sweet tooth – add sweetened cocoa powder, regular peanut butter, or a dash of honey.
Let me know what you think!!
