For the munchy monsters: After School Snack ideas

If your kids are anything like mine, they come through the door after school like ravenous beasts.

“MAAAHHHMMM! What’s for snack?”  First words out of their mouths.

Better be prepared or else it’s a free for all in the pantry and they’ll end up eating dry spaghetti and prying the lid off the refried beans with their bare hands.

Here are a few snack ideas for you that you can whip up in the 90 seconds you have from when they get off the bus until they burst through the front door.

I’ll even send you a weekly snack shopping list to make it easy peasy to keep track of what you need to be prepared for the hungry mob.

BONUS!!  None of these snacks are loaded with tons of sugar so you might have a fighting chance of getting them to do their homework without having to zip tie them to the chairs by their belt loops. You’re welcome, momma….you are welcome.

The Weekday Party Tray

Use a shaped cookie or biscuit cutter to stamp out some lunch meat and cheese circles.  As you can see, I gave up on the cheese circles and went with squares.

The only downside is you’ll have some left over scraps from the lunch meat, which I save in a zip lock to use on my salad for lunch the next day.  Waste not, want not!!

As you can see, they had a blast constructing their own “sandwiches”

Anyone will eat veggies when you offer this many dip options.  In the little bowls I have (from top left to bottom right)

  • Ranch
  • Hummus
  • Peanut Butter
  • Southwest Veggie Dip

They loved it. They ate it so quickly, I didn’t even get a chance to take a picture.

Yummy Frozen Yogurt Bites

Frozen yogurt bites using fruit and orange essential oil

This one does take a little preparation, so you would want to prepare these in the morning or the day before so they have time to freeze up.

My kiddos went bonkers for these and even asked me to make them for their next class party.  Just 3 ingredients and a few minutes of prep for these cuties.

You can find the full recipe HERE.

From the left over yogurt from those Yogurt Bites – I whipped up a yummy fruit dip for this snack.  (And by “whipped up”, I mean, put in a bowl)  Also on the line up is the all time favorite, peanut butter!

Toothpicks as “fruit stabbers” make this snack even more fun and you’re a total shoo in for Mom-of-the-year.

Finally this super awesome snack

This one you might want to save for Friday!  They’ll be so excited for this snack, they’ll be dancing on the table singing your praises for sure. If you don’t want to use chocolate chips, you can substitute raisins or dried cranberries instead.

Graham crackers (extras from the yogurt bite recipe!) and cream cheese spread “icing” make the perfect base for building the snack of the century.
